SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF GREEN TECHNOLOGY IN MALAYSIA

Definition

Green Technology refers to the development and application of products, equipment and systems to preserve the environment and the natural environment and minimize or mitigate the negative impacts of human activities. Green technology refers to products, equipment, or systems that meet the following criteria: 

ü  It minimizes the environmental quality degradation, it has the release of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions are low or zero, it is safe to use and provides a healthier environment and better for all life.
ü  To save energy and natural resources.
ü  Encourage the resources that are renewable.
ü  Energy - Search energy and promote energy efficiency• Environment - Conservation and minimize the environmental impact.
ü  Economic - Improve economic development through technology.
ü  Social - Improving quality of life for all. 

Objectives 

·        To reduce the rate of energy consumption while increasing economic development.
·        To assist in the growth of green technology industry and its contribution to the economy.
·        To increase the capacity for innovation in green technology development and enhance competitiveness in Green Technology in the arena.
·        To ensure sustainable development and conserve the environment for future generations.
·        To increase public awareness and education on green technology and encouraging the widespread use of green technology. Key Sectors The progress is significant and major improvement in the following four key sectors:

i) Power Sector 

ü  Energy Supply Sector: Application of Green Technology in the power generation and energy management, including the generation of joint (co-generation) in the industrial and commercial sectors.
ü  Energy Sector Application of Green Technology in all sectors of energy consumption and energy demand management programs.
ii) Building Sector: The adoption of green technology in construction, management, preservation and destruction of buildings

iii) Water and Waste Management Sector
ü  Adoption of Green Technology in the management and use of water resources, sewage treatment, solid waste and garbage disposal areas and
IV) Transport Sector
ü  Inserting the elements of Green Technology in the transport infrastructure and vehicles, particularly road transport biofuels and the public. 

Goals

 i. Short Term Goals (Ninth Malaysia Plan-10) 
ü  Increase public awareness high through programs of support and commitment for the adoption and implementation of green technology.
ü  The availability and widespread recognition in terms of green technology products, appliances, equipment and systems in local markets through standards, rating and labeling.
ü  Foreign Direct Investment (Foreign Direct Investments FDIs) and Local Direct Investment (Domestic Direct Investment, DDIs) are larger in manufacturing and services, green technology.
ü  Local research institutions and higher education institutions to develop research, development and innovation activities of green technology towards commercialization through appropriate mechanisms.

Ii. Medium Term Goals (Ninth Malaysia Plan-11) 

ü  Green technology becomes the preferred choice in products and services.
ü  Green technology has a larger domestic market compared to other technologies, and contributes to the adoption of Green Technology in the regional market.
ü  Increased local production of green technology.
ü  Increased research and development and green technology innovation by local universities and research institutions are commercialized in collaboration with local industry and multinationals; 
ü  Expansion of local SMEs and SMIs in Green Technology for the global market 
ü  Increased application of green technology in many sectors of the economy.

iii. Long-term Goals (Ninth Malaysia Plan-12 and beyond) 

ü  Application of Green Technology in the culture of Malaysia.
ü  Widespread adoption of green technology to reduce overall resource consumption while maintaining economic growth.
ü  Significantly reduce the energy consumption of the country.
ü  Repair of Malaysia's ranking in the environment.
ü  Malaysia became a major producer of green technology in the global market.
ü  Increased international cooperation with local universities and research institutions with Green Technology industry. Risks of nanotechnology may extend to three parts.
ü  The risks to health and the environment arising from the Nano particles and matter.
ü  The risk caused by the manufacture or production of molecules (or other Nano-technology) 
ü  The risk that comes from society itself.
